The robbery took place in Hartford around 8:35 a.m., Wednesday, June 29 at the Cencap Federal Credit Union, located at 2775 Main St.
Officers responded to the scene and were told about the tracking device which showed the stolen money was in the area of Keney Park, said Lt. Aaron Boisvert, of the Hartford Police.
As the first responding officer entered Keney Park, he spotted two men standing next to a vehicle, peering into what appeared to be a bank bag, Boisvert said.
When the two men saw the officer they immediately fled on foot, into a wooded area of the park, he added.
Responding officers quickly established a perimeter and the suspects were taken into custody, Boisvert said.
The money stolen from the bank, as well as a firearm used in the incident, were also recovered. There were no injuries reported, he added.
The two men arrested included Hakeem Malik Robinson, age 26, and Zaiqwan Fothergill, age 20, both of Hartford.
Both men were charged with:
- Robbery
- Threatening
- Conspiracy to commit robbery
- Carrying a pistol without a permit
- Interfering with police
